The first Z3's rolled off the production line back in September of 1995. They quickly caught the attention of the public and everyone had to have one. Many of the first enthusiasts eagerly slapped $500 down on a car that they had only seen in photos and would not actually touch for over 6 months. That kind of enthusiasm began to swell as cars were being delivered and the Internet became a part of everyday life.

The early enthusiasts chatted on message boards and shared photos. A few even built web sites to honor their cars and spread the enthusiasm. The Z3 had also caught the attention of some long time enthusiasts (Wayne and Amy Lester). They formed the Z Register (now called the Z3CCA) and began the club that helps to unite the Z3's owners. That club helped influence BMW to host the first HomeComing event back in 1997.

That first HomeComing was a truly magical event. No one had any expectations or even a formal invitation. BMW mailed invitations just a few days before the event and only to owners in the Southeast. They did not expect what happened next. Over 150 cars some travelling from as far as California, Texas and Vermont showed up for the event, to tour the plant , enjoy a drive and to meet each other . The owners and BMW associates had such a good time that it ensured the event could continue.

Spring ahead to 2001, over 250,000 roadsters and coupes later and the fifth such event. Many enthusiasts and cars have come and gone during the five year history but to the few (Old Timers) that have made five such Pilgrimages. Happy Anniversary!

Z3 HomeComing.com plans on bringing you daily updates from the event as we have for the last five years.
