Saturday
| Saturday morning came a little too early for
most of us. We rushed to arrive at the plant not quite sure what to
expect. Word circulated that some people came early, 4 or 5 am. They
faithfully waited with their car and cleaned it. As the crowd
swelled we were let onto the grass and arranged for the first
panoramic photo. |
|
 |
| As the group grew in size many people got their
first looks at new colors or features they had never seen. This
Dakar Yellow factory Z3 caught some attention early on due to its
Red interior. BMW was also amazed at the work many of the people had
put into their cars in terms of customizing. They video taped almost
every car and asked a lot of questions. |
|
 |
| As the first panoramic photo time grew close we
were ushered back to our cars to get ready to pose. Almost 150 cars
strong at this point, we were all amazed. This had been the most Z3s
in one place since they left the plant. |

| The first Z3 HomeComing photo as it hangs in the
Zentrum. Smile, Click and a little piece of history. |
|
 |
| With the photo out of the way a flurry of BMW
Techs came out among the enthusiasts and started to look for items
to repair. BMW decided that part of the event should include
repairs. This helped them review issues with the cars and make the
group's journey well worth it. |

 |
| Whoa! Hey that's a BMW but it has a hard top,
rollbars and almost no interior. That's Mark Hughes and
Team
Spartanburg Racing's Z3. This Z3 enjoys a break among its
fancy relatives in between races. |
|
 |
| BMW Techs in action. As they made their way
around the group, people were amazed at how much they would do to
fix a situation. Door panels, switches, door dings, dents, scratches
and almost anything else. |
|
 |
| The enthusiasts came from everywhere to get to
this first HomeComing; California, Ohio, New Jersey, Texas, Vermont
and yes, just around the corner. At least one enthusiast driving by
on I-85 on her way through from Atlanta stopped for a while. |

| Simply, A Field of Z3s to some, a Field of
Dreams to others. The tradition begins |
